Polish Work Permit
Every year hundreds of people decide to work and settle in Poland. The country has low unemployment rate, the salaries are still growing and the cost of living stays fairly low.
There are many occupations that are in great demand in Poland and require foreign workers. However, foreign workers are required to have the proper visas and work permits in Poland, as established by immigration laws.

Candidates are required to get the EMPLOYMENT VISA (NATIONAL VISA, D TYPE) through the closest consulate of Poland in their country. This type of visa is granted on the basis of the Voivodeship invitation certified by the Voivode (local Governor of the Polish administrative division corresponding to a “province” in other countries).
Work permits are issued at a regional level and will be valid for minimum 1 year period.

WORK PERMIT APPLICATION PROCESS
- The invited person has the legal right to live and work throughout the calendar year in Poland;
- The invited person has the legal right to stay for 90 days within half a year in the countries of the Schengen Area (control is hardly possible since there are no clear boundaries);
- Due to the subordination of the consulate to Voivode (Governor), the visa application is not rejected.
In order to get a work permit, the future employer needs to fill out a work permit application that includes the name of the company that is hiring the applicant and his/her job title within this company.
This has huge implications as the work permit is only valid for the given company and position. If the candidate decides to leave the company and wants to get a new job, his new employer will have to go through the process of applying for a new work permit for him.

These are different types of work permits in Poland:
- Type A – If you are employed either on the basis of employment contract or civil law contract by an employer with an office registered in Poland. This is the most popular work permit.
- Type B – If you are performing a board member function and residing in Poland for a total period that exceeds 6 months within a period of 12 subsequent months.
- Type C – If you are delegated to Poland by a foreign employer for a period that exceeds 30 days in a calendar year to work for the foreign employer’s subsidiary or branch.
- Type D – If you are delegated by a foreign employer to work in export services in an occasional and temporary manner. It is important that the foreign employer does not have a branch or subsidiary of its own in Poland.
- Type E – If you are undertaking work-related tasks which do not fall into any of the four categories above. This is, as you presume, the rarest type of a work permit.
